Mr. Williams has been conducting an ongoing "Healthcare, Legal and Business Professionals Relapse Prevention Support Group" that is held weekly since 1991. The group began as a live group in San Francisco but has been conducted virtually since the pandemic.
Description:
Professionals with high pressure, stressful careers have challenges related to their profession that can pose a significant threat to their attempts to get and stay clean and sober. The issues typically range from access to drugs, identity overly associated with their job, professional codependence/enabling, professional shame, grandiosity, fear of exposure, other people being resistant to confront the addiction, stress, depression, anxiety and difficulty self-disclosing in support groups.
Having a true peer support group provides a safe place for professionals to openly discuss their issues without the judgment and shame they often experience in treatment and other self-help support groups. It also provides an opportunity for them to get feedback from peers on issues pertinent to the challenges of maintaining a career and recovery.
This is a confidential relapse prevention support group designed to assist health, legal and other professionals to acquire, maintain and enhance recovery from substance use, abuse and dependence. The group process will assist the participants in developing and quantifying a solid recovery program and identify specific and individualized relapse warning signs. The group is interactive and supportive; members can expect to learn how to give and receive honest feedback. Group members will gain a functional sober support system that will serve as an adjunct to their already existing recovery activities.
It is important to note that this group is not intended to be "in lieu of" other Recovery activities, but "in addition to." Group members are expected to be "working a program" outside of the group. This group offers a wonderful opportunity for members to move forward on their journey in recovery. It is appropriate for members dealing with early to late stage recovery issues. All group goals will be individualized and specific. The group stresses and respects confidentiality and privacy.
All potential group members must complete a pre-screening with Roland Williams to determine eligibility prior to joining the group.
